Tyler Perry’s The Haves and The Have Nots!

I have used the phrase utterly speechless several times. However, when I tell you I was u-t-t-e-r-l-y speechless after watching the latest episode of The Haves and Have Nots…

I now know what it feels like to actually be utterly speechless! Ok, what am I trying to describe you ask? Well, let me begin by saying, yes, I know I shouldn’t be watching such a show. However, it is my soooo guilty pleasure!

SPOILER ALERT if you have not watched the latest episode yet don’t read this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, let’s recap!

I MUST begin with the end of the episode! When Derrick lifted up his shirt and exposed the Lion Head Tattoo… both me and Hanna were clutching our pearls! I mean we were like gasp and moan speechless! Tyler Perry, I did not see that one coming! I mean what the what?! Based on what I saw, Derrick is the rapist Hanna has been talking about all of this time! So y’all know this means Derrick is Candice’s father? Oh the drama of it all!

Ok, some other highlights:

There is some stuff (in my southern voice) fitten (no that is not a typo, I mean fitten) to go down in the White House! Don’t forget the “President Elect” may not have always been the Mr. Nice Guy he is now. Don’t try him Mr. President!

Speaking of Mr. Nice Guys, David. David, David, David, I thought David was going to handle his unfinished business right then and there with Veronica! Veronica and her not so sane self, does she truly believe David isn’t going to make her pay for killing the love of his life? Veronica, Veronica, Veronica.

Speaking of not so sane. How about Justin? No, really, how about Justin? Would somebody please clearly explain to me why Jeffery keeps fooling with Justin? There Justin was standing in the living room of the apartment he got for him and Jeffery with a broken wine bottle top to his neck saying he is going to kill himself. He has no reason to live without Jeffrey. Boy, stop! Put that broken bottle down and quit acting like that!

(Side Bar: Am I the only one who didn’t know Justin (Nicholas James) and Candice (Tika Sumpter) are an item?

Wyatt Cryer, I am over him! Is everybody going to jail thanks to a little snitching from Wyatt? Ok, David, Jim, Veronica and Katherine you guys better watch out!

I cannot forget Mitch. Mitch got some swagger to him! I am not sure if Mitch is a good guy or a bad guy. His last words to Benny were ” I need you to know you owe me” Now, anyone who has been watching the show knows you do not want to owe a Malone. We all know that’s going to come up in future episodes.

So, that was a quick recap. Did you watch last night? What were some of your favorite moments? I would love to read about them! Post your comments about the latest episode of The Haves and The Have Nots in the comment section. I’ll be here counting down until the next episode starting from 50 of course!

Another year ending…

Another year coming to a close. Where does all of the time go?! There are many things that I had high hopes of accomplishing this year and failed to do so. My hope is to do so much better this year.

Are there things you wanted to accomplish but did not? Will you try again next year? What will you do differently in 2019? Save money, get closer to your spiritual side, play an instrument, take a class? I would love to read about what your goals are for 2019.

Spring Anyone?

Is it just me or does anyone else see snow outside!? About 2 months ago I started the countdown to Spring. The warmer air, the blossoming flowers and the green grass…

Wait, what the what????. Yesterday at about 12:15pm was the official start of Spring. Why do I know this and “Spring” does not!?

Ok Spring quit playing around and get over here! No, I am serious. When I look out of that window again you had better be where you are supposed to be! Do not make me come over there (where ever “there” is).

Ok, I am tired of waiting for spring. Does anyone know how many days until Summer?

Black Panther Movie Review

Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. Every now and again I will review a movie that I thought was particularly great. Today’s review is about the movie Black Panther!

Where do I begin? I had the opportunity to see a screening of the Black Panther last Sunday. While I am admittedly an Avengers fan, the Black Panther movie exceeded my expectations!

It was in my opinion a long time coming and well worth the wait. Ryan Coogler out did himself. I will not give anything away. However, I will say the plot kept me anxiously waiting to see what happened next. The action scenes were absolutely exhilarating! The landscape shots were nothing short of breathtaking! The wardrobes were vibrant and stylish without going overboard. This movie is the entire package. If you are not an Avengers fan now, after seeing this movie there is a darn good chance you will be!

The cast was strong with solid acting causing you to empathize with the cause. I particularly enjoyed Miss Letitia Wright. Miss Wright portrays Shuri. Shuri is the highly intelligent, full of humor and beautiful younger sister of T’Challa aka Black Panther. Shuri like a lot of our young people is cutting edge technologically savvy. Like her brother she does not disappoint!

Finally and just as important. The Black Panther movie is a breath of fresh air when it comes to portraying people of color in movies particularly African-American men and women. More often than not I believe people of color have been portrayed in a negative light when it comes to the big screen. I am overjoyed for the opportunity for children and all of America (and beyond) to see African-Americans in a positive way.

I hope you go check out the movie Black Panther. The movie opens Friday, February 16, 2018. After you see the movie stop by my blog and let me know what you thought about it.

Super Bowl 52?

Am I the only one confused about this Super Bowl number?! Please correct me if I am wrong. Do the Roman Numerals “LI” represent the number 51? Shouldn’t this be the 51st Super Bowl played? Why is this Super Bowl being called number 52 (LII)? If anyone knows the answer to the questions above please leave a comment! Be nice!

Is it just me or am I the only one who managed to get through school not knowing (or not wanting to know) the Roman Numerals?!

Is not teaching children to write in cursive in grade school going to be the equivalent to not knowing the Roman Numeral system? Imagine not being able to sign your name on the dotted line! I hope the lines are not numbered using Roman Numerals! E signature, enter stage left! What has this world come to??

What the heck, I am only in it for the commercials anyway.

Oprah Said What?!

I am sure most of you have heard by now at least a snapshot of Oprah Winfrey’s inspiring and empowering words regarding the slew of sexual harassment cases that have overtaken the media in the past several months.

So, when I listened to what Oprah said, I thought to myself, “yes Oprah, that’s right say it girl”! Over the next few days following Oprah’s speech there were people actually trying to convince us that the speech Oprah gave was in fact Oprah at the very beginning stages of her presidential campaign! What!? Really!

Why can’t Oprah’s speech be just what it was, which was empowering, encouraging and inspiring! A way to let all of the victims out there know that we care about their pain! Why does her speech have to be a political move? Why does everything have to be a planned and carefully calculated political move! (Yes, I do realize that I am using an exclamation point at the end of almost every sentence).

Thank you Oprah Winfrey for genuinely caring and not being afraid to show it! Thank you Oprah for speaking to all of those who are suffering as a result of sexual harassment they endured! I pray not another person ever has to endure the sheer ugliness and pain of sexual harassment ever again! No, I am not running for president people!

Why is now the time?

What is it about turning 50 that makes some of us want to do something different? Why is it all of sudden “oh no, this needs to get done before it’s to late”! Why is now the time?

If you really think about it, It isn’t to late. 50 can really be the beginning! Yes, I  did say the beginning.

Ok,  here’s why. For a lot of us, once 50 arrives we have become wiser (hopefully!!), financially secure (truly hopefully!!) and independent. For the purposes of this post independent is equal to living in a space that you alone or with your spouse or significant other are financially responsible for (unless your parent is the Queen or King of “Where-ever-land” you get a free pass).

At this point, for a lot of us, if we have children they are 18 or over and doing their own thing. I understand there might be some exceptions to this. However, for the most part you are free to engage your dreams. The only person you should need to get permission from is YOU! Hence, a fresh new beginning!

My new beginnings (yes, you are allowed more than one new beginning) are learning to play the guitar, learning the new math (in case you have not noticed there is this new strange language that the education crowds are calling “math”), traveling to new places. and making better food choices. Most of all one of my new beginnings is to take 50 in and enjoy it to the fullest!!

So, I can’t wait to hear what your new beginnings will be! Please stop by the site at thisismy50.com and leave a comment or send your comment in  an email to howdoyou50@gmail.com. I will post the top 10 on the site in February.
